FUNCTIONAL REACH TEST 

1.    Feet comfortable distance apart

2.    Yardstick at humeral head 

3.    Shoulder at ~ 90o flexion. Instruct pt. to pivot (no scapular protraction) 

4.    Reach forward as far as you can, using any strategy along yard stick. No touching yard stick or any surface, no stepping.  

5.    Practice: 2 trails. Collect 3 trails and calculate mean.

Score < 6" predictive of falls;  > 10" OK
